How intriguing! Apparently there has been a confirmed sighting of a young black bear on our small island. I’d assume that where there’s a cub, there would be a female and/or another cub. Vancouver Island has large populations of both cougar and black bear, so it’s not improbable that they would swim to find new territories.  Not too long ago there was a reported cougar sighting. There is a huge food source for cougar in the local deer population. I’m curious to see how this plays out, hopefully people will be equally curious and not do anything drastic.
